Special message for our South African clients:

Do you need health education?

Due to the high demand for health education in South Africa, we are forced to have online registration only. Please register and we will contact you.

The Health Promoters is a non-profit organization that helps prevent diseases in the townships/socio-economically vulnerable communities in providing basic health education to the population. We believe that health education is a human right, and the foundation of a better life.

Demographically, we reach out to children, adolescents and adults, living in previously disadvantaged/under-developed communities of South Africa. This education is essential, as every year, South African statistics show increasing numbers of children and adults die of preventable diseases, such as gastro-enteritis (diarrhea, dehydration), HIV /AIDS, TB and obesity. Our intervention helps to provide vital health information needed to make measured decisions about community and individual health.

Our health education started in South Africa but our goal is to provide health education in more countries. From 2020, the Health Promoters have also been active in neighboring country Lesotho, giving basic health education. We plan to extend our range further in South Africa, and to at least two other neighboring countries by the end of 2021. Our health education programs take into consideration the specific endemic health issues of a particular locality and elaborates workshops to comply their specifications and demands.

Statistics indicate that in South Africa the number of deaths from gastroenteritis (diarrhea and dehydration), HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, heart disease, diabetes, rise alarmingly every year.

As a non-government, non-profit organization we teach hygiene and health promotion to adults and children living in the poorer, under-developed areas of South Africa and Lesotho.

We are a non-profit organization, founded by two passionate Public Health workers. They saw the urgent need for health education in South Africa.

What have we achieved so far

Since its inception in 2005, the Health Promoters have reached, conscientize and educate well over 81000 people in their target communities and beyond. The desire to obtain health information necessary to navigate the rough socio-economic terrain, where good health, wellbeing and survival go hand-in-hand, have seen in the course of the years, an exponential increase in the number of people who have received the health education course of the health promoters. In this dispensation of the COVID-19 Pandemic, especially, the prominence of our intervention cannot be overestimated. Our primary goal is to end the vicious circle of ill-health, poverty and unemployment. With your support, we continue to train and empower health promoters who are creating a positive impact in their communities.

In 2016 Health Promotion South Africa Trust (HPSA) earned Barack Obama’s endorsement.

HPSA has been affiliated with the United Nations since May 2019. Since december 2020 we have a partnership with UNESCO Chair Global Health & Education.

Covid 19 has made our work even more important

Right now, during this outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, our organization continues to play a crucial role. The regular activities continue only according to WHO guidelines. This means providing health education for smaller groups and the use of online sessions.
